Award-winning Indian takeaway in Dorchester
Sundorbon is an Indian takeaway on Trinity Street, in the centre of Dorchester. We opened here in 2024 — but the kitchen behind it has been cooking in Dorset since 1988.
The original Sundorbon opened on South Street in Bridport in 1988 and is still a family business. In 2019 it was taken over by Mashayel Ahmed, son of the previous owner and a Bridport boy himself. Dorchester customers had been making the drive over for years, so in 2024 we brought the kitchen to them.
Everything you order here comes from the same recipes, the same spice blends and the same chefs as our restaurants. The difference is that this kitchen is built for takeaway — so the food reaches your door hot, fast, and exactly as it left us.
From Bridport to London, and across India
After university, Mashayel moved to London and spent years eating his way through the city's best Indian dining rooms — the places setting the standard for the cuisine in the UK.
Travelling across Asia, and India in particular, turned that interest into an obsession: regional cooking, family recipes, spice blends you won't find in a jar.
He brought all of it home. Today our executive chef directs every recipe on the menu, and the same dishes go out of our kitchens in Bridport, Lymington and here in Dorchester.

Our recipes are built on quality: properly sourced meats, whole spices ground in-house, and fresh vegetables prepared daily. Nothing arrives as a bought-in paste.
That work has been recognised nationally — Sundorbon was a winner at the Curry Life Awards in 2023 and 2025, judged among the very best curry houses in the UK, and our sister restaurant Rivaaz won again in 2025.
On the menu you'll find regional curries, baltis, tandoori dishes straight from the clay oven, freshly baked naans, speciality rice and biryani, and a long list of chef's recommendations you won't find anywhere else in Dorchester.
There's plenty for vegetarians and vegans too. As mild or as fiery as you like it — tell us what you want and we'll cook it your way.
